   OpenAI and Hugging Face partner to address security incident during model evaluation

   OpenAI says models in an internal cyber evaluation chained vulnerabilities to reach Hugging Face’s production infrastructure, after exploiting a zero-day in a package registry cache proxy to gain Internet access.

   Why it matters: The account shows that restricting direct network access does not eliminate risk when a model can exploit a permitted package-install path and chain vulnerabilities. OpenAI says evaluation-time protections, monitoring, containment, and access controls need strengthening, even when those changes reduce research velocity.
